Art

Our art and design education aims to equip children with the skills to experiment, invent, and create while fostering cross-curricular links to enhance their learning. As they progress, pupils will develop critical thinking and a deeper understanding of art and design, connecting it to other subjects and encouraging a holistic approach to their education.

In Pre-Prep, children engage with the arts through play, building self-expression, vocabulary, and understanding, while exploring concepts in subjects like literacy, mathematics, and science. They experiment with colour, design, and media, reinforcing cross-curricular learning and laying the foundation for further artistic exploration.

In Lower Prep, children explore various art styles—such as pencil work, painting, sculpture, and collage—while making connections to history, science, and geography. They study famous artists and tie art to literacy through discussions and reflections, linking their creative work to the wider world around them.

In Upper Prep, children study significant artists, architects, and designers from different historical and contemporary periods. They expand their mastery of techniques like drawing, painting, and sculpture, drawing links between these practices and subjects like history, science, and technology. Sketchbooks help them refine ideas, while they learn to evaluate and analyse artwork using the language of art and design.

We are fortunate to have the opportunity to enter ISA competitions, which provide a platform for our students to showcase their artistic talents and creativity. These competitions allow children to demonstrate their skills across a variety of media, while also fostering collaboration, confidence, and a sense of achievement. By participating in these events, students represent the school and further their personal growth, reinforcing the cross-curricular connections they’ve made in their art and design learning and celebrating their artistic accomplishments.
