Art
We aim to provide a high-quality art and design education that equips our children with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. During our art lessons we aim to share key learning concepts including: colour, pattern, texture, shade, line, shape and form.
In Early Years, children will have the opportunity to engage with the Arts through play which will enable them to develop their understanding, self-expression and vocabulary. We provide opportunities for them to experiment with colour, design and different media.
In Key Stage One, children will be provided with a range of opportunities to develop their knowledge and understanding of different art styles, such as: pencil work, paint, sculpture and collage. We will provide opportunities for them to study and explore artist’s work.
In Key Stage Two, children will look in depth at the work of significant artists, architects and designers from both contemporary and historical periods. Children expand their mastery of a variety of art techniques such as drawing, painting and sculpture using a range of media. Sketch books will be used to record their observations and use them to revisit and review their ideas. Children will evaluate and analyse artwork using the language of art, craft and design.
