Music

Music forms a very important part of the curriculum and school life at St. Mary’s Hare Park School. Music is a unique way of communicating that can inspire and motivate children. It is a vehicle for personal expression and can play an important part in the personal development of children.

ISA Award for Composition June 2023

At St. Mary’s Hare Park, we aim to make music an enjoyable learning experience, encouraging the children to participate in a variety of musical experiences. Class lessons involve singing, learning to play musical instruments, understanding the language of music, listening, composing and performing. All of the children throughout the school participate in concert performances each year. This may involve both singing and playing musical instruments, either as a soloist or part of a musical ensemble

Musical instrument lessons take place in school during lunchtime or after the end of the normal school day. The school has a choir and orchestra which rehearse weekly. Each year the musical ensembles within the school take part in concerts, workshops, and activities in the wider community. In the past the school ensembles have participated in concerts at the Queen’s Theatre in Hornchurch, the Barbican Centre and Royal Albert Hall in London, and also performed at the National Finals of the Music for Youth Competition at the Royal Festival Hall in London and Symphony Hall in Birmingham. The school also arranges regular concert trips to London where the children can experience live music performed by professional musicians, most notably the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Royal Ballet at Covent Garden.
