PE & Sport

At St. Mary's Hare Park School, our Physical Education (PE) curriculum is designed to inspire all pupils to excel in sports and physically demanding activities, fostering confidence and promoting health and fitness. We emphasise the importance of well-being, ensuring that our students understand the connection between physical activity and mental health.

We are proud to have achieved the School Games Mark Gold Award for three consecutive years, recognizing our commitment to the development of competition across our school and into the community. Our strong partnership with the Havering Sports Collective provides our pupils with opportunities to engage in a variety of sports alongside other local schools, allowing them to experience new activities and compete in familiar ones.

Additionally, as active participants in the Independent Schools Association (ISA) competitions, our pupils regularly showcase their talents and sportsmanship on broader platforms.

In addition to our specialist teachers, we utilise the Get Set 4 PE scheme, which offers curriculum-aligned lesson content. This framework enables our teachers to deliver high-quality PE lessons that build on prior knowledge and skills, ensuring all pupils develop competence in a wide range of physical activities.

Our curriculum aims to:

  • Develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities.
  • Ensure children are physically active for sustained periods.
  • Engage in competitive sports and activities.
  • Promote healthy and active lifestyles.

Within our school, children experience a wide array of sports, including gymnastics, football, tag rugby, hockey, rounders, netball, basketball, dance, cricket, orienteering, and athletics.

For the children in Upper Prep, swimming is an integral part of the curriculum, with each year group participating in sessions designed to build water confidence and proficiency.

Through our bespoke PE curriculum, we aim to build character, develop wellbeing and embed values such as fairness and respect, preparing our pupils for lifelong engagement in physical activity.
