Science

The National Curriculum states, ‘A high-quality science education provides the foundations for understanding the world through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. Science has changed our lives and is vital to the world’s future prosperity, and all pupils should be taught essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science.’

Our science curriculum ensures that all pupils:

  • develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics
  • develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them
  • are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future
  • develop an enthusiasm and enjoyment of scientific learning and discovery
  • develop the essential scientific enquiry skills to deepen their scientific knowledge

At St. Mary’s Hare Park School, we recognise the importance of science and embedding STEAM learning across our curriculum. We are passionate about increasing our pupils’ knowledge and understanding of the world alongside developing skills associated with science as a process of enquiry. Science at St. Mary’s Hare Park develops the natural curiosity of the child and allows them to ask and answer challenging questions and carry out a range of investigations. We believe it is important to teach children about our local environment and how we can create a sustainable future.

In the academic year 2024- 2025 we were delighted to be awarded with the Eco-Schools 'Green flag' accreditation; at a Distinction level. Our report feedback shared 'Your greatest success was the way Eco-pupils led the whole school in hands-on Eco-learning projects like the RSPB birdwatch and Veganuary, which will inspire ongoing positive change in litter-awareness and environmental responsibility across your school community.'
We are proud to continue our Eco-School council into the 2025-2026 academic year whilst embedding environmental studies into our curriculum.
